My budgie, Cloud (my username), escaped from my house today. I walked into my sisters room with him on my shoulder and needed something but didn't know she was stupid enough to keep her window open in November *sigh*. I've only had him 3 months but loved him to bits. I finally trained him to sit and fly onto my shoulder within 2 months (he was 4 months old when i got him).
A few hours ago i could hear his distinctive call outside on a tree, but when i got near him he flew away to another. Then about 20 mins ago i heard him again in the distance, i predicted where it was coming from but saw him being chased by a Magpie over a high roof. I'm pretty sure it caught him by now as i can't hear him anymore :(
I don't think i have ever been this gutted, not even when my dog died 6 years ago. The reason being that i actually lost him, and not through natural causes. I'm really upset right now and thought i'd register to this place. I've left all the windows open and put his cage and some treats near them and i will do so for a few more days. Please pray with me that Cloud is safe!
Thanks for reading and i really hope he returns to where he belongs.

Im so sorry, maybe if you put his cage outside then he could just fly in if hes still near by, keep calling him you never know he might hear you, I do hope you get him back, and welcome to the forum

Hey, thanks for your kind words, trace. :)
Yeah i'm planning on doing that but i'm worried now because he was quite far away from home when i saw the magpie chase him i really, really hope he knows his way home if he decides he wants to return.

Fingers crossed for Clouds return. Have heard many stories here about birds returning safely to their home area. Good luck and keep us posted - as BAS says- let people know . I rehomed a budgie that was caught in a garden - so there is a good chance he may be caught by someone.

Thanks so much. I'm just worried for his safety because it's so cold outside, i mean i kept the window open in my room and it's bloody freezing lol. :( I sure hope he lost that magpie too!
I will call them tomorrow. :)

Even if i don't get him back but he is in a nice home that would be amazing and my head will be at rest.

Yeah, i only have a few more threads to post in before i can finally post pics of my beauts!

Twice in my life I lost budgies....and I got both of them back.
The first one escaped from my mother. We put an ad in the paper, and somebody had found her. She had flown about 1 mile and walked into somebody's open balcony door.
The second one was my fault. I had the cage outside, wind blew it over, the door opened, and the bird was gone. Somebody got her and took her to the humane society.
Pet birds, even when they are not tame, turn to people when they know they are in trouble. One bird landed right in front of me once, and I took it home. It was not tame at all, but knew what to do.
So...keep looking.Put flyers up, put an ad in the paper, phone shelters...
I hope you will get a happy end too...

Not sure where i can get a fishing net from...but i'll ring around and see if anyone has some nets. I haven't heard him yet today from my house some i'm going to look around my whole area soon.
Haha that's pretty funny :D If i get Cloud back he's getting his cage back for sure and i will give the other 2 another one. :)

Wow that has given me alot of hope. I hope Cloud is smart enough to do this! I mean he is pretty tame anyway, like he landed on my shoulder and loved his cage aswell.
Thankyou for your encouraging words! I will certainly do this :)

i was going to put travis in a new big cage with hedwig billy and nipper all now dead :( miss them 3 , anyway while hedwig was just let out to fly and i worry about him later (he was tame) travis was in no way tame so i had to grab him i corned him and he bit down hard. so i felt it better he stay where he was, nipper caused no problem being grabbed, so travis got mr t for company instead, yeah that probably makes no sense, but anyway they bite hard when they want too,

Haha yeah i know! I let my 2 baby budgies out in the bathroom today (maybe i should let them get used to the cage a bit longer...) and when i caught the one of them, it bit down so hard on my finger i thought it drew blood but it didn't.

yeah they do lol, its a shame really alltho travis is ery untame allmost wild, in no way ust to humans he has lived with em for years but he has refused to tame, i am not pushing it with him he is happy enough now he has a friend i did have to scarifice her as i was gogin tame her, but i think the fact he has a frined to be untame with is nice for him,
So pleased you've got some more budgies. What are they called? And at least it's pretty mild for November - so hang on in there, Cloud, and get back home!

Thanks alot guys,
Lorna, there's still no sign of him =( It's been 5 days now so i'm kind of just hoping someone has taken him in. I'm gonna check some online bird shelters soon and maybe some missing pet websites, see if anything comes up!
I put posters up with a £100 reward but no one has contacted me yet.

gosh this story is so similar to what happened to Tulip, my budgie.. :(
he went missing yesterday, flew up in a tree, was ok with the wild parakeets but then was chased down by a magpie and took off in the wrong direction, and then I lost contact :(:(
I haven't heard anything of him today, and despite the warm and sunny sunday I'm feeling totally awful inside, I can understand so well how you felt in november..
I'm still hoping he's found another home, or that he will join the parakeets, I'l never give up hope, though that doesn't fill the empty feeling inside..
Good luck with your new ones
so sorry i feel for you i had a bird who flew away i loved him so much
