Urgent Help!!!!!!!!

Hi-my name is Lisa,I started breeding budgies this year-everything was ok until I went out yesterday and found mummy bird dead,6 very hungry chicks and dad in shock.I managed to foster youngest 2 out-which leaves dad 4 to feed-he is feeding them but only when he can be bothered-I have been giving them mushed up egg food via a syringe(sp?)because I dont know what to do next :confused: .Any help gladly accepted.Thanks in advance.

Lisa, do you have any other breeders in your area? I would suggest contacting them and/or any local vets for a good receipe for feeding babies. You may actually want to seperate them from Dad and put them in a smaller cage where you can better regulate the temperature for them. (Don't do that without asking the vet or one of the breeders on here though, since I'm not totally certain on that).

Lisa, I was also checking out some other sites on this question and most people advised visiting a pet store and trying to track down Kaytee Exact. It is a formula specially designed for baby birds. Good luck!

Panic over-Big Blue(Dad who is a visual violet cock)has decided he can do a better job than me-thank god and all four are doing fine.The youngest 2 that I fostered out to Pippin(grey hen) are thriving with her 5 babies-so I am going to leave them with her and her hubby(sky blue spangle)

Sad news-went out today at 11am when I got back from pet shop and looked at my babies one of the 4 orphans was dead-he looked fine before I went out all 4 had full crops but it was definatley empty when I got him out.Sometimes it makes you wonder if its worth all the pain-just hope the other 3 make it-looks like they'll all be either violet like dad or a lighter mauve.Fingers crossed.

Thats sad. Maybe he was one of the weak ones. Hope the others are ok. I carnt imagine what that must be like but going by what others have said i should imagine feelings and emotions run high. Fingers crossed for the others.

Lisa Ive got everything crossed for you and your babys, and yes its worth it, because you bring such joy with your birds, I wouldnt be without Ozzy hes so funny and even m daughter whos scared of birds loves him and les him sit on her hand :D you do a great job
