My Budgie has a beautiful big cage. The bars aren't to far apart, but its too big for budgie sized perches, they are never long enough.

Now I have become a little obsessive over our wee girl and want to get her a new cage, as ours is second hand. Instead of tall though, I would love one quite long. However, I cannot find the sort I am after in NZ, and I'm not to keen on making one, incase I get it wrong. I am willing to imprt, only if the shop uses PAYPAL and deliver overseas without too much of a postage charge slapped on it.
any ideas or advice?

Have you checked ebay? They have alot of cages to choose from. I would think you could find one that meets your requirements. Don't have any idea what shipping would be but many sellers ship worldwide. Worth a look if you haven't already.

Hi - when you say the perches are not long enough - do you mean that you want the perches to go from one side of the cage to the other? I got perches made from branches which only attach on one side with a wing nut - they come in various lengths in the UK.

Well mine came with 3 default perches.. i don't even use them.. I went out back got some nice branches messured them, and stuck them in my cage.. I am currently working on a toy/set up, where a big branch is in the middle of my aviary (indoor one basicly huge cage..) and branches stick out on all sides :), natural and birdies will love it.

Certainly better than the ones they supply them with..

I found my cage in NZ! It looks small on here, but I've checked and it is plenty big enough for my wee fella. it is two story, and you can take the divider out of the bottom story to make even spaces for two birds.
I might get lucky and get a cockatiel ;) Although I do love my budgie. If I got a secnd one, and kept them in the seperate compartments, wil they still be just as happy out of the cage with humans?

ok so i cant paste the picture yet. I will some other time

I had that problem when I got my cage. The cage I bought was originally divided and came with short perches that only covered half the span. When I removed the divider, I no longer had perches, so I had to get some that bolt on from one side only. The reason I got the divided cage, was because it came with openings for 4 feeders. The same cage without the divider only had 2, and I wanted to try to give my bird fresh foods without putting them in the same cup as the seed.

Im not to worried about feed cups, as the local petshop sells the ones that hang over the bars. I will take the divider out thou, which turns the cage from 3 parts to 2. I esp love the fact that the areas are longer rather than tall, that was my number one requirement to it.

Cyberpets.co.nz Birds, cages, the green one that looks like a house with three bits.

If you want to have a look, it would be great to have feedback from the more experienced. I'm sorry I couldnt give you a better link....I'll have 15posts oneday :)

Just a little bit of advice if you need perches just go down to your local DIY shop and get some dowel that does just as good as the default perches

yeah but get different diameters as to exercise the feet

The square dowels are a good alternative if you can find them.

I've Finally got my 15posts!
This is the cage I am looking at :) Any opinions?
Re: pearches I have some stock standard, one ropeish, a few a cool foam, a few designed to keep the nails and beak down and one or two natural wood ones, that get rotated with the toys :) Hopefully they'll fit in here, and least with this cage they'll have more room to play and fly :)

Thats awesome.
It looks pretty cool ay? and its the ultimate excuse to get another budgie, as I only currently have one very well trained wee girl, and we dont want to in the same cage. Or maybe a cockatiel for the other half.....decisions....
