Hi my name is Helen,

I live in the Liverpool area and I have a 1 year old male budgie called Bob who is very lonely and in urgent need of a companion. I would like a fairly young budgie if possible that is tame or can be tamed easily. If anybody is a breeder/ selling budgies in the local area please pm me as soon as possible.

Thank you so much,
Helen.

Isn't it more convenient to buy it at a petstore and tame it yourself?

In no case. Buy at breeders and tame it yourself. Do not buy at a petshop.

There are some good petshops out there, but you have a better chance of getting a good budgie from a breeder. You can see where the budgie has lived and how it has been treated. Plus the breeder will probably have handled the budgie since quite young which is an advantage. Plus the breeder can tell you what stage the budgie is at. I waited weeks to get two young budgies from a breeder and am glad that I did.

I love the pet store where I have mine from, they are so healthy and are hand tame xxxx

It depends. There are terrific conditions in the pet shops in my country.

I would advise against buying any live animal in pet shops. In the vast majority, animals sold to petshops are poorly bred (often farmed), very rarely socialised, and frequently in poor health.

pet shops... eek! kathy is quite right on that one. avoid the tags that say "hand fed babies" because not only are those birds generally no longer babies, but due to not being handled by careless employees interested only in handling large birds (if handling any at all), have also gone wild. if you have no luck here, it's best to wait rather than give in to the temptation of getting a companion sooner by going to a pet shop. oh, and as to your question.. um, I have several available-mainly males though, but I'm in new york. if your budgie is tame, handle him as much as possible so he isn't lonely until you find him a companion. I hope you have luck!
