Congrats on Sid!:)

There are a few differences between budgies & cockatiels, Cliff ('tiels are definitely NOISIER;)), but they generally get along well together.

The seed mix is different........sunflower seeds included, larger seeds on the whole. I understand that cockatiels can manage on budgie seed for a while, but it's not recommended for the long term. We used to have a budgie & a cockatiel in the same cage, so mixed the two types of seed for them. They'd both pick out what they liked.

I don't remember if ours ate grit or not:confused:...........it's been a few years, sorry.

I adopted Cheeky last winter and asked for similar advice, they don't need grit so he doesnt have any and seems fine. He loves his millet spray though and I try to get him eating fruit and veg too, but I think he was never introduced to any in his previous home and just ignores it.
Hope sid is as happy as Cheeky is in his new home, yes, he's noisy but adorable.
