Wow, my own blog!!!
Here is a picture of my existing set up, which we built in August. I didn't believe you all when you told me I would want a bigger one eventually....but you were right. The birdroom I have now in this set up is really just a little cubby hole for me to escape to with a bottle of wine and a couple of dogs!!! We have started work on a second birdroom now so that I can have a dabble at breeding and also to prevent my first one from getting over crowded (I'm just a girl who can't say "No" - to a budgie!!!!
http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac295/JulieJenkinsphotos/November%202009/DSC01621.jpg
Here are the plans for my second birdroom. It is going inside the carport on the other side of the fence to my aviary. Its going to be 2m wide and 4m long.
http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac295/JulieJenkinsphotos/BirdRoomPlans.jpg
So far, the base has been done, using floor boards and tanalised runners. The back panel has been made with two small windows above the fence line to allow a bit of extra light in
http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac295/JulieJenkinsphotos/DSC01941.jpg
We've bought the rest of the wood, so now I'm just waiting for the next part of the installation to be done (Dave works nights and this is his busy time of year). Watch this space.
By the way, I would appreciate any suggestions etc.

Bit more done.....need wood for the door and roof now. The indoor flight at the end will have a window on one side and a double wired window instead of glass on the other side, with a shutter so that they have fresh air during the day and warmth at night. It will be pretty sheltered anyway with being under a car port. Going to put polycarbonate roof vents in as well for more ventilation and light.

Yes, the flight I have now is really just the inside part of a garden aviary. My new flight will be for housing any chicks I breed (until I can bring myself to part with them!!!) Also I've got one or two birds in my aviary that hardly ever go outside, so I think I'll move them into the new birdroom and make more room in the aviary!!!
I keep meaning to ask you what make your webcam set up is? I know you bought some of it off ebay. I'm going to get something similar set up eventually, so it will be good to know what to get:)

Yeah, the only thinig is you would need to run a network cable out to your aviary/birdroom. I have one wireless camera but i can't set the wireless up its to complicated for me so have wired it in. Then you just log into the camera using internet explorer, and just set the settings that it need, but it mainly just plug and play;)

http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac295/JulieJenkinsphotos/Building%20Second%20Birdroom/Frontviewwithshutteropen.jpg
This one is the front of the shed. The far end is going to be the flight area, and as there will be no outside flight (selfish husband says he wants SOME of the carport left!!), we have double wired a panel to give them some fresh air during the day, this photo shows the panel with the shutter closed.
This one shows the shutter open...
http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac295/JulieJenkinsphotos/Building%20Second%20Birdroom/Doublewiredpanel.jpg
The end panel (leading onto driveway) has a window with a shutter to prevent headlights disturbing the birds and for a little more privacy...

Gosh, Julie! I can see why you haven't been posting so much lately.

This is a great space! Beautiful, in fact!

Such a healthy-looking place to put budgies. I'm grateful......for them; and jealous...........for me. :) You've done a great job, and I feel so comfortable (hard to describe) with your tastes (see the gardening items on the side of your carport(?) and the plants in the hothouse boxes and hanging plants that are so familiar to a fellow gardener. It's like looking at what my ideal budgie home would look like. Maybe we're brothers????
:p

What a nice cohesive plan you have there.

Quite a nice place!!

Thanks Eve!! We built our garden aviary last summer with just a small bird room, only big enough for two breeding cages, and I realised that I needed more space and an "overflow" flight to avoid overcrowding in the garden birdroom!!! It will be great having washing facilites in the birdroom as it will free up my utility room in the house, which is always full of dishes and trays etc ready to be washed!!! I'm going to have the two birdrooms running at the same time (twice the work!!!):)

After looking at Andrew Luke's fantastic birdroom on his website (can't wait for my turn of the DVD) I've decided to have opening rooflights in the bird room. Much moaning and groaning from the other half but its been started. I think its a good idea as it will allow a bit more ventilation without compromising on security (there is only a six inch gap between the roof of the birdroom and the carport roof). They are going to be positioned over the sink area so that they are not directly over any cages so the sun doesn't shine directly on the birds. Dave's not well today, he thinks its Swine Flu (I think its a sore throat and a bit of a headache) so I don't think much will get done today

Hi Julie, your bird room looks well and well planed out too, think its a good idea the way you have set up the roof lights as you say you can open them for fresh air but you still have the security. Good luck with it and hope you get it finished off soon the clubs always looking for a new bird room to visit.

Ha Ha hope so for his sake, I went to a shop to get a new diary the other day (used electronic one to date) and while I was there I got a really good valentine card for Lorraine, so us men need to be on the ball and our women will give us loads of peace if we are :D

Have you seen the signature on Lornas posts? It says something like "If you treat your wife like a thoroughbred you will not end up with a nag" - and I always smile when I see that.
I quite like the old saying of May West (oops - you won't remember her....)
"A husband is like a fire - if left unattended he goes out"......hmmmm......
