Hi again.
Some more information to help with your breeding results.
Grey Budgies
Violet Budgies
Dominant Pied Budgies
These Budgie variations on colour and markings are dominant,a bird CANNOT be split for Grey,Violet or Dominant Pied.
I will try and explain their breeding behaviour .
Light Green Dominant Pied x Light Green = 50% Light Green and 50% Light Green Dominant Pieds.
Light Green Dominant Pied x Light Green Dominant Pied = 25% light green
50% Light Green Dominant Pied and 25% Light Green Double Factor Pied.
(these double factor pieds are nearly always yellow with a flash of colour on the rump and look like badly marked recessive pieds.)
Double Factor Light Green Dominant Pied X Light Green = 100% Light Green Dominant Pieds.
These douuble factor birds be it dominant pieds ,greys and violets are very usefull birds as when they are paired to normals produce 100% like themselves, but be wary of the seller who tells you a bird is split for violet, grey or dominant pied because they are not.
I hope this helps.
John.

Hi-could you tell me what colour babies to expect from these pairings-
1] visual violet cock x albino hen
2] sky blue spangle cock x yellow faced sky blue-she's type 2-turqouise colour
3] sky blue cock x light green spangle hen
Thats if they ever decide to "get it on"-they all seem more interested in fighting each other-I'm sure they will do the deed in the end!Fingers crossed!
Thanks

Lisa,
1] visual violet cock x albino hen will yield skyblues, cobalts, violets cocks will be split (alb)ino too.
2] skyblue spangle cock x yellowface skyblue will yield skyblues, yellowfaces, skyblue spangles, yellowface spangles
3] skyblue cock x lightgreen spangle hen will yield lightgreen and lightgreen spangle (possibly skyblue and skyblue spangle if the hen is split blue)

Now removed the yellow faced hen(all she did was bite whoever I put her in with and hide in a corner) from the sky blue spangle and replaced her with a cinnamon grey hen-any ideas on her babies.Sorry for asking all the time-but it's the only way to learn.

Sorry for asking all the time-but it's the only way to learn.
Learning is important!
So here we go: spangle skyblue x grey cinnamon
Well here we have 4 genes that are involved: blue, spangle, grey and cinnamon.
1) Blue: since both birds are blue ('grey' is actually a grey blue), all offspring will be blue (or grey)
2) Spangle: this one is dominant, and your cock is single factor spangle (the one with the nice spangle markings) then the offspring will both be 50% (single factor) spangle and 50% non-spangle
3) Grey: also a dominant factor. It can be single factor or double factor, in case of single factor (as with spangle) you get 50% (single factor) grey and 50% non-grey. If it's a double factor (only possible if both parents were grey) it will produce 100% (single factor) grey
4) Cinnamon: this is a sex linked factor. Cocks are X/X and hens are X/Y with respect to there sex chromosomes. The Y is an empty chromosome. The cinnamon factor is on the X chromosome. So your hen is Xcin/Y (cinnamon). Your cock is non-cinnamon: Xcin+/Xcin+ (the + means "not cinnamon"). So your offspring will be a combination of cock and hen: Xcin+/Xcin and Xcin+/Y, or normal cock/cinnamon or normal cock split cinnamon (cinnamon is recessive) and normal hens. If your cock happens to be split cinnamon then you'll also get cinnamon cocks and hens among the offspring.
So combining 1) + 2) + 3) + 4) you get (I'm taking the conservative assumptions: single factor grey, cock not split for cinnamon):
12.5 skyblue cock/cinnamon
12.5 skyblue spangle cock
12.5 grey cock
12.5 grey spangle cock
12.5 skyblue hen
12.5 skyblue spangle hen
12.5 grey hen
12.5 grey spangle hen
(percentages are theoretical)

Hi Dawn.
Lutino,Albino,Cinamon,Opaline, slate,Lacewing and Texas Clearbody are all sex linked varieties.
Lutino cock x Normal Hen = All the cocks will be normal but split for Lutino. All the hens will be Lutino.
Normal Cock x Lutino Hen = All the cocks will be normal but split for lutino. All the hens will be normal.
Split Lutino Cock x Normal Hen = 25% Lutino Cocks 25% Normal Cocks 25% Lutino Hens and 25% Normal House.
This rule works for all the above varietys.
