:( Thought it would be a good idea to get everyones opinion's on what not to feed your bird's, for instance, avacado's are highly poisonous to bird's. I also read that apple seeds are highly toxic to bird's as they contain small doses of cyanide[ far too small for human's of course, so don't panic]. I'm sure that branches from oak trees are toxic too, though i'm not sure where i read that from-my mind's not as sharp as it used to be. Anyway anybody else got any info?

I googled a bit to see what is generally aknowledged.

Never give your budgie alcohol:eek: , avocado or chocolate - these can kill your budgie, avoid asparagus, aubergine or eggplant, cabbage, caffeine (tea and coffee), junk food, milk and cream, raw potato, and rhubarb (including the leaves).

I think there are a few in that list I wouldn't have ever considered experimenting with, alcohol, lol.

I wonder why lettuce is allowed but cabbage is generally a no no

Cabbage contains some substance that is not so good (don't know the details myself - but I don't think it is really poisonous).
It's discouraged for (human) babies too. Grownups can handle that substance better - supposedly that's why children generally don't like sprouts (also a cabbage).

I didn't realize there was so much toxic foods for your birds, not that I would be giving my bird half of what is listed. I usually just give my bird a piece of lettuce for his treat. I have giving apple slices before (no seeds).

If I remember correctly it's hydorgen cyanide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen_cyanide) that makes the apple seeds toxic. It blocks "respiration" on cellular level. It's called "blauwzuur" [blue acid] in Dutch because you turn blue if you had too much. I believe it takes a cup of seeds to kill a human being. So sizing it down to the size of a seed eating budgerigar... So it might indeed to remove the seeds.
