Started building my new aviary yesterday it's coming along just nicely. Its going to be built out of steel, No wood at all except nest boxes & perches. Put most of the frame up today now it's beer time. there some pic's of the progress. I'll keep you all up to date with the progress as it happens, It could take some time because of work. I can't wait for it to be completed so I can spend more time looking & less time looking after & maybe go to the next level show wise that is. Keep you all up to date.:D 878

It looks great Mark, your birds all look so well and they've got loads of room...brilliant.
Your breeding cages are also good, I would love something similar but it would have to be on a much smaller scale.
You are one serious budgie breeder !!
I love it.

lt's bloody cold here at the moment 10c top temp today & 8c yesterday when l took these pics. l'm going to make some clear covers up for winter which it is now l've been a bit busy at the moment as my mum passed away last week it a very sad time for me & my family so the birds have to tuff it out for now. l like to breed them tuff over here, some don't but when l sell mine they tend to live. I feed them hulled oats always in winter that keeps the warmth in them & in summer it's 40c plus so it will be tops for them than.:(

hi mark,

I envy your aviary!
question :) about the last picture, is that part of the flight that host all your non breeding birds? small branches for young birds at the floor area?

do you seperate your cocks and hens in the flight?

AMAZING!!!! i shall be steeling some of ur ideas if u dont mind ?? :p

question : why u hav ur seed holders in a big bin ?? for exces seed ??

Go for your life steel as many idears as you want, The bins are to catch the spilt seed, it falls to the bottom of the bin & they go down & have another go at it & you don't get any seed husks in your cage at all. It the best idear l've come up with, plus my perches are cane so dropping don't stick to it they can't chew them & they are hard to grip so it builds up there gripping strengh. l had years to think of these idears while waiting to build this Aviary. So thankyou again for your comments

Neil

that is an excellent idea!! i would of never thought of the bin idea. can i ask u wat size ur avairy is and wat size ur flights are ??

Mark Hawke

you are getting some length into the birds mark.

l've been working on that for along while now Barrie, l've noticed that birds are getting better head qualities over the years but the length is getting shorter. So l've kept all my long birds to build the length in my flock. lt's paying of because other breeders are coming around to buy length birds of me now. Big is always better so they tell me!!!
