FIRST i must tell you we have a judge who breeds and exhibits quality budgerigars, these are shown in perfect condition and excell in deportment,i give you at great expense all the way from bonnie scotland PETEY.
NOW it's your turn, you are a member you must have budgies and a camera, yes,we want your pictures posted on here, how about something different that might catch that judges eye, think about it what can you do.this is a pet competition and pets do funny things, you don't keep them because they sit up correct, they have six spots and perfect feathers you keep them because you love them for what they are,you show them to us and if you take different pictures just keep posting them.
WIN this one and your award will be THE BEST PET BUDGIE IN SHOW AUGUST 2007.
NON MEMBERS join now it's free, post your pictures and have fun.

hi Jake
first and third birds through to next stage, can you try and get another of the first bird, same type of picture as the third bird (showing the whole bird perching properly),have to elimanate the middle bird (opaline light green cock) as he has a few pin feathers present on his shoulder and head

I thought that Flash's moult might make him lose this month. Here's a slightly better shot of Jack.

the novice section was created for members with avairies and breeding cages and a larger variety of stock compared to the keepers of pets.

I would like at least some competition!
Though Jack & Trin both told me they would still like to win.

Been trying to get decent pictures of Mr Poofey head (AKA Mikko) for a while now but my camera is playing up :( He FINALLY finished his moult last week and the misting is bringing his feathers up nicely.
He's a bit sleepy in these pics so his body is fluffier than normal.

Bah! I want to enter Squeaker but the rotten bird is STILL moulting!! The back of her head is all pin feathers, oh and when I mist her she fluffs up and looks angry but doesn't preen  She even soaked herself by flying through the stream of water in the shower last week and she still didn't preen, I had to take pity on her and give her a gentle wrapping with a towel to help get some of the water off lol Her chest is still really pale too, will that improve as the moult progresses?

Sorry ...but....width of head...??? Are you forgetting this is the pet budgie competition?! We don't breed and we dont pick budgies because of how big their heads are! :p
What am I meant to do put some cotton wool in his cheeks to make his head look a bit bigger? :o Should I never enter him again? Because I somehow don't think his head is about enlarge itself... We dont have avaries full of budgies to just enter in the next competition and we cant go out and breed these faults out... these are our pet budgies who we love for what they are; I think you maybe need to be a little less 'exhibition standard' in your judging if you are going to judge our pet birds!

I'd have to say the same, I thought the pet section was more about uniqueness, charachter, impression.
Maybe listing funny quirks or antics in future pet competitions might be a wise idea, give a more personal feel and not such a show bench feel. :)
Afterall, we choose our pets for personality, how they grip us, how they change our lives, that expression they all carry that's different in each bird. ;)
Just a thought :)

i understand bonesys and stacey comments but also like you say bonesy about the character etc.
can you really always tell this from a picture?
what you can judge is what you see in the budgies attributes
sorry if people don't agree with my judging of the pets, but maybe in the future it would be better for one of the pet owners to judge this section:o

People always see that Molly is a stroppy looking madam from her pictures and Mikko just comes across as a soppy eejit at the best of times :p
It might be easier to devide them in future, have a "show" pet budgie section and a "personality show" pets section. :)

Dont take it to heart Petey. You are judging with the knowledge you have and the way you thought it should be done. I understand how Sophie and Tacey feel as all my budgies have names and characters and are my pets, even if they are out in the aviary and obviously they are judged by Mindy the same way as you. I dont mind that at all.
If I remember correctly people were asked to volunteer for judging and you kindly offered, as did Mindy.
Maybe next time as Sophie suggested a diferent kind of Pet Competition could be held BUT>>>> who is going to volunter to judge it?
Maybe on a vote system by all members on the 'Poll facility' or something like that.

10th Best Pet In Show
is viv-annes normal sky blue cock, very nice bird viv-anne in excellent condition, the only thing that stopped him going further in the competition is his rather narrow head (obviously narrower in the pet type birds but his seems narrower than the others entered)bet he is a excellent pet though, sorry:)
Pete
Hi Pete, I am not complaining about the position Pippin 'achieved' but would you please explain the 'rather narrow head' - is it from top of cere to top of head or width between the eyes? I really don't know what you mean!

Congratulations Molly (and Bonesy), lovely budgie - very striking colours.
Also congratulations to Mindy and Buds. All nice birds.
I don't know about Pippin being a nice pet - he scarpers the moment I get near him (especially with a camera) which is why I can never get a decent picture!

hi vivienne
the answer to you question is the width between the eyes, you see in bonesy's molly her head seems to be a bit wider than the other birds entered,do enter pipin again in future competitions as some judges have very different opinions

Hi Pete
Thank you for placing Max, I've missed all the excitement, my computers been down the last couple of days.
Congrats to Bonesy & Mindy, you have lovely birds.
One last thing Pete, I presume the 'mask' is the top of the head down to the neck spots, I'm no expert
Cheers everyone, Buds

hi buds
yes the mask is generally the face of the budgie,in respect to depth of mask is from beak downwards in depth eg. in some birds the spots in birds are almost right under the beak (a bird with poor depth of mask, when there are birds with mask that are down at the chest area in contrast)
Hope this helps
