i am breeding with all my 8 month old birds, this is the last phase of my breeding programme and the end results should be a quality line of birds that will take me into retirement.

Dan Maddocks
11-08-2007, 07:19 AM

Do you have many problems with the 8 month old cocks?

none and the hens are used at the same age they are mature at 8 months and over the top in the 2nd year.

this double factor dominant grey pied was used at 71/2 months old with a 8 month old hen and have raised 13 chicks.

28-08-2007, 08:29 PM
Richard Miller asked me too, but not sure never done it :(

PS1
28-08-2007, 08:47 PM
Its worth doing its not difficult fetching birds, if you have done it at normal shows its a piece of cake.

Dan Maddocks
28-08-2007, 08:49 PM
Never ever done it, so was like, dont no what too do :(

PS1
28-08-2007, 09:01 PM
Basically as a steward(s) you are asked by the chief steward to fetch a class number eg class 1 Champion light green cocks, they tell you how many are in the class ,these are then brought from the stageing to the judgeing stand for judgeing .the winning bird in each class is kept back ,the other birds are returned to the stageing.then the winning birds are then judged for best of colour.

Dan Maddocks
28-08-2007, 09:25 PM

the budgerigar society show this week-end-what will i see?

we have a few members going to the show for the first time,i know you will all enjoy it and i hope i get to meet you.

from the dome car park take the wooden gate leading down to the ornamental pond, cross the bridge and the entrance is in front of you.

the main foyer houses the different budgerigar societies and upstairs the bar and restaurant(12.00 on the dot the bar will be busy with food.).
have a look round going from left to right, our main society stand will be in the centre, once you have circled the foyer the entrance to the main hall is on the right.

£5 entry ,if you buy a programme it will list all the entries by colour and exhibitor, the award sheet will show the winners.you will receive a arm band which lets you come and go whenever it suits.

ENTER THE MAIN HALL.

champion birds start at class number one, followed by intermediates, novice, beginner and juniors.

a large area will be dedicated to sales birds all priced in the programme, buy and take away.

the outer walls are dedicated to our manufactuars names like hampshire breeders, riversway(meet the boys),check out the orange man colin(his dry carrot is good),wades cages and another barry, all your seeds on the bucktons stand,do check out our artistic budgerigar fanciers stands, fantastic pictures to take home, the bits and bobs stands for your dummy eggs, finger drawers, water fountains, all size feed dishes, perches and you name it you can buy it,nest boxes, gazunders, plastic cages and i can go on and on.

have a wonderful day i know you will all go home tired but will have some wonderful memories.

guess the winner- i think it will be a breeder one of three colours-

a violet cock,a greygreen cock or a double factor spangle white cock.

entries were down to about 1500.

brian got five ccs,the d/f broken both main flight feathers.

a lot of birds never made it,perhaps another four weeks later would have made a difference to the entry figure.

No i went last year on the sunday took the wife and kids, just to see what it wasn all about, thats were it gave me the bug, i went to my first open show at castleford last month, enjoyed it got a bit of help from some people just by opening my mouth and asking what all the numbers on the cages meant, then concentrated on why one bird was placed above another more so on the begginers section so to see what i would come up against in the future.

Where are they going to stage the birds

The main hall was full last year with the budgies / trade stands, and the balcony held all the sales birds

just hope the dont try to cram to much into the main hall as it can get really busy at times

could be a good thing though

well if the main hall was full there were a lot of gaps.

the best thing ever were the foreign birds in with the budgies it creates more footfall into the show.

i would imagine there are plenty of side rooms unused or they may put the society stands inside the main show hall.
