Where did your budgies come from?

I had four pet shop budgies, since I did not know of any budgie breeders at the time. I probably would like to look for budgie breeders in my area, though, when I get settled, now that I'm older and have more resources.

Both of mine have come from breeders....

Mine were both from the pet shop, mostly because I simply couldn't find any breeders in my area. If I had been able to, I would have tried them first. I'm usually against purchasing any animals at a pet store.

Mine have all come from the pet shop but, as I mentioned in another thread, I knew the shop owner was caring and competent. I got healthy birds from another shop but they weren't as smart or trainable as the ones I got from the knowledgeable owner.

One fof mine from the petshop had a band placed on his leg that was too tight and it required surgery to have it removed, so yes, I'd make sure the petshop knows what they're doing first!

I agree the pet shop should have been careful about the band. You'd think they would have checked it when they sold you the bird. But bands are put on by breeders, not the pet shop, so the original miscalculation actually occurred before the bird got to the shop.

The bird I lost last week, (twinkle) I didn't name her, she was a rescue, the owners didn't want her because their new puppy wouldn't leave her alone, they had her cage on the floor!!!

Sunny, I've been wondering how people get in the position to offer homes to rescued birds. Did you find yours through the SPCA or are there other avenues?

Dogs aren't cats, so I would be less concerned about one eating the bird, but leaving a bird's cage on the floor is just way too much! For Heaven's sake, how did they know that the dog wouldn't think the bird was a nifty squeaky toy and try to get it out of the cage? People are just too ridiculous to be believed. It's wonderful that you took Twinkle in as a rescue. The world needs more caring people like you.

I'm so sorry to hear that she died. She sounds like she was a lot of fun. :( How old was Twinkle, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm glad to hear that you had her for so long. Think of how many good years you gave her--maybe even extending her life! I have a great deal of admiration for people like you. :D
