The first of many questions I'm sure!
As I stated in my introduction, we are getting a pair of budgies soon & the obvious first step is to get a cage. Now I did order a Record 6, I think made by Ferplast, with dimensions of 87Lx46Wx67H but the first one the box had come undone & the wire damaged & the replacement has a broken base making it unusable. Now I'm considering getting a cage from a different source but I can't afford the same cage from someone else, it adds another £30-£40 or so to the cost, & to be honest I hadn't realise just how big it was! But the problem is I'm having a job finding a decent size/shaped cage as I've read somewhere that a shorter, taller cage is no good, budgies need length, is this right? The cage I'm considering is a modern Hagen Vision ll which is 60.9Lx38.1Wx52H is this too small? THere is also a larger size which is 74.9Lx38.1Wx54.6H & they do double height ones, same dimensions but H is 87.6cm on the medium. I shall be letting the birds out to fly around the room for exercise but there will be times when they can't, if we go away & someone else looks after them for example, & I'm concerned they won't have enough room. I did see some nice black ones on ebay but they all seemed tall & narrow, about 36cmW I think.
I know I'm waffling on but I really don't know what to do. I want to give them as much space as possible in the cage but need to think about cost & practicalities, a shorter taller one would be easier to place but not at the cost of the birds comfort. Any suggestions or comments on the brands most welcome! I got so frustrated yesterday I said forget it & we won't have any.....how could I?!!
Thanks, Debbie:)
