ok on a budgie website, ive just read that budgies like it if theres a bit of green cabbage in their bath at the bottom. But ive read that cabbage is bad for budgies?

are you allowed to feed them fruit, like apple and orange?

what about food like bread or toast?

    Thanks

Good list there, Spicky ... that covers everything.

I suppose some people do offer cabbage. But cabbage is a really heavy tough veggie that is hard to chew let alone digest for a small birds tummy. So why offer it ?

As for breads ... allot of breads contain salts. Salt is bad for any budgie. Some people do offer bread or toast to their birds. But I'm sure they don't offer this very often. Never offer toast that has any margarine or butter on it as this can only harm your bird as its fat & has more salt & chemicals in it a bird should never have.

If you do offer toast/bread it should be a whole wheat bread or a bread with many grains. Never give that soft fake white processed flour bread, as its full of chemicals & salt & allot of sugar.

Paul - I feed a smidgeon of garlic powder in my softfood mix without any ill effect.

My budgies love cucumber and lettuce. As a treat they get a strawberry from time to time. They are reluctant bathers, so as a trick to get them in the water, I get a particularly firm outer leaf of savoy cabbage and fill the dip of it with water and attach it to the side of the cage. They can't resist the cabbage and will get a nice little bath in the process. Of course they tend to peck bits out of the leaf and the water ends up all over the place, but it is fun to watch and the birds seem to enjoy themselves!
