can anyone help? my canary has stopped singing! she used to sing beautifully, but now she makes an odd squeaky sound. Any ideas of what I can do? not sure of how old she is, we have had her for 2 years after someone left her at the gate of the farm my daughter worked at - she does look pretty old, would that have anything to do with it? I do miss her song!

Canarys always lose their voice when they molt. They get it back sometimes in 2 months ... sometimes longer. It will sound like Janis Joplin or Bonnie Tyler for a few weeks all cracky & sad ... but it will return in full beautiful song once they have completely molted & feathers are returned & the bird feels better.

Just cover the cage each evening early & let the bird rest. Give it a good seed mix & fresh water daily. Do not give it lettuce or fruits as it will strain the bird & it doesn't need that at this time.

Give it time. It will sing again. Hens & Cocks both sing in canarys. More the cocks though. They are the true champs of song.
